So sorry to see Ted’s name in the paper yesterday. Do hope the wounds are not serious.   Wasn’t it sad about poor Freddie Bond, he was such a dear boy. I am going back to Camberley on Sunday. Love to all.

    What an insight this spate of correspondence is into the lives of the women of an age to have sons out and fighting – scanning the printed casualty lists daily and writing words of comfort to their friends when they see a name they recognise.

    I know. This set of letters is in some ways more fascinating than the ones from the Front. I certainly wish we had more of them
